Most word tools work by sending your letters to a remote server, waiting for the server to process them, and then delivering results back over the internet. That round-trip introduces latency — often two to eight seconds — that interrupts your game.
Quiz Rebel works differently. Our entire dictionary of 14,000+ words is delivered to your browser when the page loads, and our frequency-map algorithm executes locally using your own device’s CPU — exactly like running a spreadsheet formula. When you press Solve, zero network requests are made. The answer is computed in your device’s memory in milliseconds.
The frequency-map data structure is particularly efficient for this problem: instead of testing every permutation of your letters (which would take exponentially longer as letters increase), it maps each letter to its count and checks whether each dictionary word’s letter requirements can be satisfied from your set. This is the same approach used in competitive Scrabble software.
- No server round-trip — processing is 100% local
- Frequency-map algorithm: efficient at any rack size
- 14,000+ words searched in milliseconds
- Works offline once the page has loaded
Your letters and searches are completely private. They never leave your device — not to our servers, not to Google, not to any third party. This is an architectural guarantee, not just a policy promise.
Because our dictionary and algorithm run entirely inside your browser, the letters you type are never transmitted over the network. A cookie or analytics system can only track data that travels over the network. Since your game queries never travel, they cannot be tracked by anyone.
To be precise about what this means technically: when you type CRANE into the unscrambler and press Solve, your browser executes a local JavaScript function. No HTTP request is sent. No log entry is created on our server. No query is associated with your IP address. The only network activity during a search session is the initial page load.
We do use Google AdSense advertising cookies — these are unrelated to your word searches and track your general browsing interest for ad targeting, not the specific letters you type. See our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy for full details.
Type a question mark ? in place of each blank tile
in your letter set. The engine treats ? as any letter of the
alphabet, testing all 26 substitutions automatically.
In the example above, the rack AELP + blank tile is entered as
AELP?. The engine finds every word that can be formed, substituting
the ? with each letter in turn. Valid results include
PLEAT, LEAPT, PLATE, PETAL, TALES, STEAL, LEAST — and more.
Bingo tip: blank tiles are the most valuable tiles in Scrabble —
worth approximately 25–30 bonus expected points when used to form a
7-letter bingo (which scores a 50-point bonus). The ? wildcard in our
Unscrambler is specifically designed to help you find those plays before you
miss them. Use it on any rack that contains a blank.
- One blank tile → one
?in your input - Two blank tiles → two
?characters (e.g.AEL??) - Works in both the Word Unscrambler and Anagram Solver
- Results include all valid words using any substitution for
?
Quiz Rebel is designed to help players of the following games:
Our current dictionary of 14,000+ verified English words covers the most commonly played valid words across these games. Each tool is specifically designed around a game’s mechanics:
- Word Unscrambler — for Scrabble and Words with Friends rack analysis, with
?wildcard support for blank tiles - Wordle Helper — three-field interface matching Wordle’s exact green / yellow / gray feedback system, filtering 2,987 five-letter words
- Anagram Solver — exact and sub-word modes for competitive word puzzles and cryptic crosswords
Coming soon: Official dictionary validation against TWL (Tournament Word List) and SOWPODS — the two official competitive Scrabble lexicons — backed by a database of 178,000+ verified words. This will allow players to instantly verify whether any word is legal in North American or international Scrabble, ending disputed challenges once and for all.
A regular dictionary answers a very different question. When you look up a word in a dictionary, you already know the word — you are checking its meaning or spelling. In a word game, the question is the opposite: given these letters, what valid words can I make? No dictionary can answer that for you.
Quiz Rebel answers the real question. Enter your rack and receive every valid word you can form — sorted by length, grouped clearly, and delivered in under one second. This includes words you would never find by browsing a dictionary: two-letter tiles openers, obscure-but-valid high-scorers like QI, ZA, OXO, and every combination in between.
Beyond speed and comprehensiveness, there is the Zero Friction advantage. Traditional online word tools interrupt your game: cookie banners, loading screens, ad pop-ups covering the results. Quiz Rebel is designed to be invisible — you get your answer in under a second and return immediately to the game, with your concentration intact.
- Sub-word discovery — finds all valid shorter words within your letters, not just full-length anagrams
- Triple-word score plays — reveals high-value plays you would never spot manually
- Zero friction — results before your concentration breaks
- No searching word by word — the entire valid word space for your rack, at once
- Wildcard support — blank tiles become an advantage, not a puzzle
Yes — and the research on competitive players backs this up. Word games measurably improve working memory, orthographic processing speed, and cognitive flexibility. Quiz Rebel accelerates that process.
A 2021 Concordia University study found that competitive Scrabble players showed superior performance on visual attention, orthographic processing, and verbal working memory compared to matched non-players — and the gap widened with years of practice.
Quiz Rebel amplifies this through a specific mechanism: active retrieval. When you see a word in our results that you did not know was valid — QAT, NACRE, RETINAS — and you play it in a real game, you learn it through the most effective form of memory consolidation: encountering a word in a high-stakes, contextual situation. Players who use our tools regularly report that their active vocabulary expands faster than passive reading alone would produce.
There is also the cognitive flexibility benefit. Managing multiple constraints simultaneously — what letters do I have, what positions are available, which squares are premium, what does my opponent need to avoid — is genuine executive function training that transfers to real-world problem-solving.
- Active vocabulary grows faster through play than passive reading
- Working memory improvements transfer to unrelated tasks
- Pattern recognition develops with regular rack analysis
- Cognitive flexibility — switching between game frameworks — is directly trained

The key distinction: Quiz Rebel is not a shortcut that replaces the mental work of the game. Our tools handle the mechanical part (finding every valid word from your letters) so your brain can focus on the strategic part (which play maximizes score, what leave you maintain, how you block your opponent). That division of labor produces better results and faster skill growth than either alone.
